Crossandra (Kanagabaram)
This traditional variety has gained good spread among the farmers of the South India resulting in the export of crossandra to foreign countries and thereby fetching foreign money to our country. This country fetched about 40 Crores turn over in south Indian market. To meet the increase in demand, we started micro propagation of Crossandra plants by tissue culture technique and distributed plant at the free of cost to self help groups as well as to the farmer. So far we have developed about "100 Varieties of Crossandra" by pollen crossing, gamma radiation, chemical and UV mutation .Some of the plants have commercial value and some had ornamental value. Some of the varieties were requested by TNAU at free of cost for trail purpose (Per Plant Rs. 10).
During 1975,I started my research activities in traditional casuarinas equisetifolia plan also. Initially I produced casuarinas seedlings from seeds and observed that the weight of tree varied from 5 Kg's per tree to 50 Kg's per tree at the end of the 5th year resulting in an average yield 35-50 Tons per acre. Moreover the trees get lodged during rainy, stormy and windy seasons. Therefore ,I started the seedlings production in an imported hybrid casuarina Junghuliana variety which was brought from Thailand in the year 1951 to chengalpet, marakanam and Kanchipuram district of Tamilnadu by the Dean chief conservator of Tamilnadu Forest Department namely Mr.Hondas this variety is an open pollinated diploid plants and hence plants produced from the seeds showed variation in growth traits and gave an average yield of 50-75 Tons/Acre in 5 years not satisfied with this performance, I selected a good performing mother plant of casuarinas Junghuliana Miq identified a sterile tetraploid casuarinas

Junghuliana Miq and standardized protocol for shoot tip vegetative propagation and invitro micro propagation method. I gave Gamma irradiation at kalpakkam atomic research station the farmers after 5 years of cultivation observed that each tree weighted 100 kg's and in one acre approximately 200 tones yield was realized. The cost of one ton is Rs.2500/- and hence the total revenue works out to Rs.4.5 Lakhs per acre with expenditure of only 0.5 Lakh. The Farmer also observed that about 90% of plants showed uniformity in growth. This tree is mainly used in Paper Industries besides its use in Rayon Industries, Thermal Power Station, as support post in civil construction work. This variety gives out about 4900 calories of energy on combustion which is equal to that of lignite(but the cost of 1 ton of lignite is Rs.12000/-)(Per Plant Rs. 3.50).
Ghee Chilli
This ghee chilli was discovered after long study from various places and the credit goes to Ms.Srilakshmi Vengadapathy daughter of PADMASHRI, DR.T. VENGADAPATHY REDDY. Now I have developed interest in chilli species which is locally called as "Bhut Jookia" and botanically known as Capsicum Chinens. This Chilli is a traditional variety which grows in the forest area. The specialty of this variety is that its pungency is 5 times more than the presented cultivated variety. This grows well in 400 meters above sea level in Munnar Forest of kerala. This variety when added at the amount of ΒΌ a piece of chili it's give ghee taste in sambar, Rasam, etc dishes. This chilli is locally known as Scorpion Chilli as it's pungency it's vary comparable to scorpion venom and also it's fruit shape look like the tail of the scorpion. My future work will to develop and improve this chilli and spread it to the common public. All my cash award will be used for research purpose and helping for the farmers.
This species grows from mean sea level to 500-600 feet above mean sea level and grows to the height of 40 feet very quickly This traditional variety perpetuated in nature through seeds. I observed variation in seeds propagated in seedlings and therefore I selected good mother plants and propagated them through shoot tips of young branches. This tree is used for house consruction, wood works, biopesticids and for the production of plywood's besides the fact that the neem trees from the basis of life as they produce high amount of oxygen by using the carbon-di-oxide in the air and thus reducing the Co2 level in the air. In India this plant paved way for forestation program. Recognizing my work the Government of India has honored with "PADMA SHREE AWARD 2012".This award was the first award which was honored to horticulture sector seeing this E Tv channel (AP) covered the new developments made in crossandra, meliadupia, and casuarinas to the world people.
